Inside a Retail Intelligence Discovery Workshop: The First 30 Days

Use an illustrative first-30-days planning window to define a discovery question, permitted evidence, review points and next actions. It is not a standard Workshop duration or delivery promise.

A discovery review can examine one defined retail decision or workflow before a team commits to technology. The scope should specify the operating question, participants, permitted evidence and deliverables. Observation, interviews and remote sessions can be combined as appropriate. This is one possible engagement format, not a requirement for every EIG service.

Using the first 30 days as a planning window

Here, the first 30 days are an illustrative planning and review window, not the Workshop's standard duration, a guaranteed completion period or a required engagement sequence. The agreed work may cover fewer activities, take longer or pause while access and ownership are resolved.

Define the question. Select a category review, assortment decision, supplier process or planning workflow. Agree the decision owner, boundaries, participants and what useful evidence would look like. If those conditions are unresolved, record them before promising an output or start date.

Review permitted evidence. Examine relevant records and, where agreed, observe work or interview participants. Document inputs, rules, exceptions and conflicting accounts. Mark unverified information and access gaps instead of describing an incomplete record as a trusted knowledge base.

Compare next steps. Consider whether the issue calls for clearer responsibilities, process changes, requirements, better data or technology. An AI option needs its own evidence, evaluation and human authority; it is not the inevitable finding of discovery.

Use the agreed review point. Within this illustrative first-30-days window, distinguish completed work, findings awaiting validation and activities not yet started. Agree whether to close discovery, revise its scope or schedule further review. Do not treat a calendar boundary as proof that the work is complete.

What the scope can produce

The agreed scope defines which outputs are included and their depth. These records are not, on their own, a production knowledge system or an AI deployment.

Why agree scope and fee first?

Agree the business question, participants, permitted information, outputs and timing before starting. The Workshop has a fixed scope and a fixed fee agreed in advance. Every asset it produces is yours to keep, whether or not you commission further work from EIG.

Choose the next step your business needs

A Workshop is optional. A team with a defined requirements, data, merchandising or delivery need can discuss that work directly. Further implementation, including any knowledge-foundation or AI work, is separately scoped and subject to agreed availability, responsibilities and acceptance conditions.
